LAKERS UPDATE: BRYANT CLARIFIES COACH TALK.

Byline: Ross Siler Staff Writer

DENVER - One day after saying Phil Jackson's return as Lakers coach was a ``real possibility,'' Kobe Bryant Kobe Bean Bryant (born July 23 1978(1978--)) is an American All-Star shooting guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA) who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.  clarified himself Saturday morning before All-Star practice at the Colorado Convention Center The Colorado Convention Center is a multi-purpose convention center in downtown Denver, Colorado which recently underwent a major expansion. The expansion added 600,000 sq. feet of space and a 5,200 seat concert hall. The total area of the convention center is 1.2 million sq. feet. .

``I think he has just as good a chance as anybody else, the other coaches who are as likely possibilities,'' Bryant said. ``Ultimately, it's going to come down to (owner) Dr. (Jerry) Buss and (general manager) Mitch (Kupchak) and what they want to do.

``And also Phil and the other candidates, if that's something that they want to pursue. So I really don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

. I think it's a realistic possibility for him to be a head coach, but I can say the same thing about the other coaches as well.''

Bryant also was asked if he thought the Lakers were heading in a direction to facilitate Jackson's return, with interim coach Frank Hamblen Frank Hamblen is a National Basketball Association (NBA) coach and scout, and a college basketball player at Syracuse University. ``For us, it's just getting through the season,'' Bryant said. ``Frank has now grabbed the bull by its horns, so to speak, and really accepted the challenge of finishing off this year and then going from there. Who knows?

``We could go undefeated in the second half, and Ham will be the head coach. You never know.''

The trade deadline is Thursday afternoon, and Bryant said he didn't think the Lakers would make a move.

``I haven't heard anything, so I assume (it will be quiet),'' Bryant said. ``But I don't know. The first half of the season was so up and down for us, and the changes in our coaching staff. It would be nice to have some consistency.''
