There was no word if Superman ever threw any elbows, but Bryant admitted he flipped to the ``corny'' Christopher Reeve movie Tuesday night when it became too maddening to watch the Lakers lose to Utah without him.

``I was kind of going back-and-forth,'' Bryant said. ``It was tough just to sit there and watch it. ... It took away from the nerves a little bit.''

What did Bryant think of ``Superman,'' the movie his daughter wanted to see? ``He's no Batman,'' Bryant said. ``Batman's self-made.''

The Lakers, meanwhile, could have used a superhero su·per·he·ro

Bryant said he would appeal the $289,943 he lost in pay from the suspension, which came for a flagrant foul A flagrant foul is a serious contact foul involving unnecessary and/or excessive and/or intentional contact in sport. ``Sometimes you take a step back to take two steps forward,'' Bryant said.

``He responded to therapy, but not as well as he hoped,'' spokesman John Black said.

Medvedenko played in only two games for the Lakers this season and never found his spot in Jackson's rotation. The Lakers have invested six years in developing the Ukrainian big man, but face a decision about re-signing him this summer.
