LADBROKE TO OPEN THIRD OFF-TRACK WAGERING SITE IN HARMAR ON DEC. 7

LADBROKE TO OPEN THIRD OFF-TRACK WAGERING SITE IN HARMAR ON DEC. 7
MEADOW LANDS, Pa., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ladbroke Racing Corporation announced today that its third off-track wagering location in Harmar Township, Allegheny County, Pa., will open for business on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 7.
In addition, Ladbroke will have a V.I.P. "Off & Running Party" on Friday, Dec. 6, for local dignitaries with that reception to be by invitation only.
Ladbroke Racing Corporation, owner of Ladbroke at The Meadows in Meadow Lands, Pa., in Washington County, also has two other off-track wagering facilities in operation in New Castle, Pa., and Greensburg, Pa. The New Castle site is in the Westgate Plaza and the Greensburg location is at Greengate Mall.
The Harmar Township location will be conveniently located just five minutes off of the Pennsylvania Turnpike at the Allegheny Valley Interchange. Easy access is also available via Route 28 North from Pittsburgh, less than 30 minutes from downtown.
The Ladbrokes-Harmar Township facility is unique in the respect that it is the first of the Ladbroke facilities to be built from the ground up. It will include one floor covering a 26,000-square-foot area. Over 250 television monitors will be located throughout the building, bringing races from four Pennsylvania tracks. Ladbrokes- Harmar Township will offer wagering from Ladbroke at The Meadows and Pocono Downs -- the two harness tracks in the commonwealth -- and from Philadelphia Park and Penn National Race Course -- the two thoroughbred tracks in Pennsylvania. The facility will be open all year and during the afternoon and evening on most days.
A full-service dining room and restaurant area will be available along with a lounge, bar and a cafe area. There will be 23 pari-mutuel locations.
Ladbroke Racing Corporation is owned by Ladbroke Group PLC of London, England.
Off-track wagering in Pennsylvania is changing the direction of racing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a Ladbroke spokesman said. In past years, tracks have weighed heavily on their on-track performance. However, the off-track operation has now become a critical feature of the success of racing in the state, according to a spokesman. By bringing racing closer to many fans, it is believed that the sport will be made more available to fans who would otherwise not venture to the racetrack itself.
With the opening of the Harmar location, Ladbroke Racing said over 100 jobs will be created and the increased traffic flow will help the economy of the Allegheny Valley region.
Ladbroke Racing Corporation is permitted by legislation to open up to six off-track wagering sites in Pennsylvania.
