LADBROKE RACING CORPORATION DONATES $4,258.92 FOR DISASTER RELIEF
MEADOW LANDS, Pa., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Ladbroke Racing Corporation announced today a donation of $4,258.92 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.
The monies were generated through the donations of Ladbroke, its horsemen and Rosecroft Raceway in Maryland from proceeds of wagering on The Messenger Stake simulcast through the Ladbroke Racing System on Saturday night.
Ladbroke Racing and its horsemen gave up their entire share of the money earned from the wagering on The Messenger Stake. In addition, Rosecroft gave up a 5 percent commission which they would have earned from Ladbroke since Rosecroft was the host track for the race.
"Ladbroke Racing wishes to thank everyone involved including Rosecroft Raceway, the horsemen here at The Meadows and of course the patrons who wagered on the race Saturday night," said track spokesman Bob Sabot. "We have all seen the disasters which have occurred in Florida, Louisiana and now Hawaii. We're happy to do our part to help out."
Ladbroke Racing said the check for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund would be in their hands by the end of this week. Representatives of the Pittsburgh-Allegheny County Chapter of the American Red Cross were at Ladbroke at The Meadows on Saturday night in an effort to help encourage patrons to wager on the race and thus make a donation to the disaster relief fund. The Ladbroke wagering system includes on-track Meadows, Call-A-Bet, off-track wagering facilities in Harmar, New Castle, Greensburg, and Johnstown, as well as on-track Philadelphia Park and Penn National Race Course.
