LACHEMANN BACK AS ANGELS COACH.

Marcel Lachemann Marcel Ernest Lachemann (born June 13, 1941 in Los Angeles, California) is a baseball pitching coach and a former relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics.

After a three-year stint (1969 - 1971 in the majors, he became the pitching coach for the California Angels in 1984.
, who resigned as the Angels manager three months ago, rejoined the club Tuesday as pitching coach on the staff of new manager Terry Collins.

Lachemann, 55, earlier spent nine years as the team's pitching coach and has been with the organization a total of 14 years.

Collins had said when he was hired on Monday that he would like to have Lachemann on his coaching staff.

``I am thrilled to have a man I consider one of the finest pitching coaches in baseball join our 1997 staff,'' Collins said Tuesday. ``Certainly it's a unique situation with Marcel having managed here last year. But the bottom line for this organization is to compile the finest group of coaches-instructors possible.

``Teaching remains an integral part of a coach's responsibility, and there is no finer teacher than Marcel Lachemann.''
