LABOR PAINS COMEDY HAS A PREGNANT PAUSE.

Byline: - Glenn Whipp

Seth Rogen's slacker in Judd Apatow's ``Knocked Up'' isn't far removed from the underachiever he played in Apatow's ``The 40-Year-Old Virgin'' or, for that matter, the high-schooler he played in Apatow's celebrated TV series ``Freaks and Geeks Freaks and Geeks is an American television series, created by Paul Feig and produced by Judd Apatow, that aired on NBC during the 1999–2000 TV season. Although the show, considered a comedy-drama, garnered much critical acclaim and a devoted cult following, repeated .''

This time, though, the stakes are a little higher. In ``Knocked Up,'' Rogen's man-child is responsible for an unwanted pregnancy unwanted pregnancy Obstetrics A pregnancy that is not desired by one or both biologic parents. See Teen pregnancy.  after a drunken one-night stand one-night stand

``It's a more serious subject than `40-Year-Old Virgin,' '' Rogen says.

``We deal with real (stuff).''

That said, Rogen is quick to add that the R-rated movie, which also features `Virgin' alums Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann Leslie Mann (born November 11 1972 [1]) is an American actress. Early life and career

``We live in an R-rated world,'' says Rogen, who also has a producer credit on the movie. ``I think, for Judd and myself, there's no going back from that. You've got to keep it real, and PG isn't real.''

After the success of ``Virgin,'' Rogen says he and Apatow bounced around a lot of ideas. Rogen's notions lean toward the high-concept, while Apatow likes ``reality-based, emotional things.''

``Judd had this funny birth story that he has always wanted to use in a movie,'' Rogen says. ``In the end, that's how we settled on this one. He had to tell the story.''

As for his own feelings toward fatherhood, the 24-year-old Rogen cops to the usual fears and uncertainty common to most guys his age.

Before ``Knocked Up,'' he had never held a baby. He never had any desire to, either.

``A lot of the movie comes from my own awkward interactions with Judd's kids,'' Rogen says. ``I'm always afraid I'm gonna gon·na
