LA.COMFIDENTIAL > CELEBS.Belly up to the bar, chap Ricky Gervais gleefully insulted Hollywood, charities, fat people, thin people, AIDS victims, cancer patients, Stephen Hawking and himself during his one-man "Out of England" show on Friday. "Look at your smiling faces and how skinny you all are," the tubby king of British comedy said when he stepped onto the Kodak Theatre stage wearing a cape and crown. "All because of Botox and eating disorders!" But he was still offered a multimillion-dollar TV deal. Rob McElhenney, the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" creator/producer/writer/actor, hoped to recruit Gervais for "Boldly Going Nowhere," a new show he describes as "'The Office' in outer space." "Ricky is my favorite comedian of all time, and I'll give him $2 million per episode of Fox's money to work with us," McElhenney said during drinks in the George Eastman bar as Kathy Griffin posed with fans. "Ricky's British version of 'The Office' inspired us to make our own shows, and we're ready to pay him back big time," added "Sunny" co-producer/actor/writer Charlie Day, wearing a Philadelphia Phillies baseball cap and drinking Bud from a bottle. Bet that gave Gervais the last laugh of the night. >Joel Stratte-McClure/Spywitness CAPTION(S): photo Photo: (color) Ricky Gervais |
