Ramping up X Games party

Kathy Griffin came early, took one look and headed out, but most of the other scantily clad females who made the scene at the Maxim magazine ICU X Games bash at Area on Thursday night didn't budge from the teeming dance floor; after all, there were X-Games hotties and rock stars to dazzle, so why go home?

Moto X superstar Travis Pastrana got revved up for his upcoming rally car competition in the games by squiring a nameless Maxim girl along the red carpet, where he soaked up the adoring attention of girls and guys.

"We're just a bunch of rednecks," he said, "so the way this whole X Games thing has grown is just unbelievable!"

With sponsorship by Subaru and Asics (along with Maxim), you'd think the bash would include some free cocktails, but unless you were Pastrana or his pals -- Dave Navarro and girlfriend Nicole Bennett, Busta Rhymes, Will.i.am, Brandon Davis, Ian Ziering -- you ponied up some serious cash at the bar to get a buzz going.

Jamie Pressly prettied up the scene (leaving her new baby at home), along with beauties Rachel Perry, Kelly Monaco, Tichina Arnold, Golden Brooks, "Deal or No Deal" suitcase carrier Laura Shield and a seriously bust-enhanced Kristy Swanson. She fit right in with the Asics go-go girls, whose plunging necklines pointed right down to their snazzy sneakers.

As the party raged on into the wee hours with dance tunes spun by DJ Eric Cubeechee, DJ AM and Samantha Ronson, one happy guy summed up the experience for all of his sex when he was overheard shouting, "This party is way better than the X-Games!"

Hey, grow up already!

Dave Navarro, guitarist for Jane's Addiction, showed up at the DVD party for "Disturbia" at L.A.'s The Standard, Thursday with new girlfriend Nicole Bennett, and was asked his opinion of tabloid targets Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. The former husband of Carmen Electra says he understands them better than most: "These girls are growing up; lay off for five minutes. It just seems to me that it's an unfortunate way that people want to sell papers and gain attention for themselves.

"Everyone wants to chime in on what these girls are doing. When I was 20 years old, believe me, some of the (stuff) that I got away with, it would blow your mind. And it wasn't just drunk driving.

"Here I am at 40 and I'm healthy and alive and it's part of growing up. These girls, everybody's watching them, they've got millions of dollars at their disposal, and they're having a good time. And sometimes a good time turns into a bad time. It just teaches you how to have a better time in the future, that's all."

Glittering at the Moss

Design mavens will delight in Moss, the latest WeHo shop to open on Melrose Avenue, at the intersection of Melrose Place.

Murray Moss and Franklin Getchell brought their famed SoHo, New York, design store and gallery west on Thursday night, with a gala opening exhibit known as "Glitter & Smoke."

"I've shopped at this store for years in New York; I love it," "Las Vegas" beauty Molly Sims shouted above the din of the packed minimalist space. "So I had to come and see this new shop. It's pretty amazing."

Amazing is right, with everything from a 1938 Steinway Baby Grand piano that Dutch designer Maarten Baas has fire-sculpted (yep, burned parts of it to a crisp) as part of his "Where There's Smoke" collection for Moss. And the piano still plays; crazy!

Eighteen giant floor-to-ceiling "Glitterbox" Swarovski crystal chandeliers twinkled in the light, and two cheeky loveseats took center stage. They were created by sewing together stuffed animals, one a riot of jungle creatures, the other a black-and-white study of cuddly pandas that just cried out for a toddler's touch.

With so much cutting-edge style in the room, it's no wonder that fashion designers Jeremy Scott and Jenni Kayne turned up to check it out; and "Sex and the City" producer Darren Starr stopped in. Perhaps to get a few ideas to create a design-forward look for the long-awaited film that he and the gals will begin shooting this fall?

If so, he'd better head back to New York for inspiration, for as owner Murray Moss explained, "We hope to seize the opportunity the L.A. space will afford us, rather than replicate our New York experience. This shop will be unique to Los Angeles."
