LA OPINION'S NINTH ANNUAL 'CELEBRATION OF CHILDREN'S ART' CONTEST AWARDS CEREMONY

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- La Opinion announces the winners of its Ninth Annual "Celebration of Children's Art" contest Sunday, Aug. 29, at the Biltmore Hotel from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The leading Spanish-language newspaper will honor 90 winners and award full scholarships for art lessons at the Los Angeles Music and Art School. The winning artwork will be exhibited at the awards ceremony.
In May 1993, La Opinion invited elementary students from the entire Los Angeles Unified School District to interpret this year's theme, "Our
World in 2050." La Opinion selected the theme to encourage the youth of Los Angeles to look to the future and realize their role and responsibility in shaping the future. The students were invited to explore the theme on a local, global or personal level. A distinguished panel of judges of established artists and scholars of art, which included David Botello, Paul Botello, Gail Cottingham, Pat Gomez, Joe Gatto, Rueben Guevara and Anthony Padilla, evaluated over 1,000 entries and selected the 90 finalists.
La Opinion welcomes The Broadway's support in the ninth annual "Celebration of Children's Art." Following the award ceremony, The Broadway will conduct a traveling art exhibit of the children's works. This will enable the Los Angeles community to enjoy a glimpse of what our children will bring to the future.
As the voice of the Latino community for 67 years, La Opinion's annual "Celebration of Children's Art" contest continues to demonstrate our commitment to the youth of Los Angeles by encouraging the development of their artistic talents.
