L.A. STREET RACE TAKES A DIFFERENT COURSE; FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES SET FOR ROAD RACE.

Ron Hornaday Ron Hornaday, Jr. (born in Palmdale, California on June 20, 1958) is a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver. He is the father of former NASCAR driver Ronnie Hornaday, and the son of Ron Hornaday, Sr., a two time Winston West Champion.  has made his name as one of the top drivers on the NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. It held its first race in Daytona Beach, Fla.  Craftsman Truck Series. But this weekend, he tries something different.

Hornaday, along with Winston Cup regular Ken Schrader Kenneth Schrader (born May 29, 1955 in Fenton, Missouri) is a second-generation race car driver. He currently drives the #21 Little Debbie Snacks Ford Fusion for Wood Brothers in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. , are the two biggest names among the 36 drivers participating in the Featherlite Southwest Series this weekend, the featured event in this weekend's L.A. Street Race.

The event returns to the Exposition Park Exposition Park is the name of more than one place:
  • Exposition Park (Dallas) - a neighborhood in south Dallas, Texas
  • Exposition Park (Kansas City) - A former baseball park in Kansas City
 area adjacent to the USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  campus for the second consecutive year, but with a revamped course.

The street track is still one mile long, but now goes around Exposition Boulevard to avoid shutting off access to nearby museums all weekend. The course now encircles the Sports Arena and features two hairpin turns just before the finish line.

The Featherlite Southwest Series event, a 125-mile race, begins at 1 p.m. Monday and is the conclusion to a weekend full of racing. In addition to the Featherlites, the American IndyCar Racing IndyCar Racing, followed up two years later by its sequel, IndyCar Racing II, is a racing game by Papyrus Design Group. It was released in 1993.[1] Papyrus previously developed , released in 1990.  Series joins the event for the first time.

Also Monday are races in two other divisions, the Ultra Wheel Spec Truck Race and the Downtown L.A. Motors Group PRO Racing Series, which features late-model production Porshes, Ferraris, Dodge Vipers, Ford Mustangs, BMWs and Corvettes.

``The L.A. Racing Experience'' returns, which is an outdoor expo near the track that allows fans to view and interact with the latest in racing technology.

In addition to Hornaday and Schrader, all of the regulars on the Featherlites series will compete in Los Angeles, which is billed as the only NASCAR race to take place on the streets of a major city.

One of the top drivers on the circuit, M.K. Kanke, is a native of Granada Hills. Kanke has led 175 laps this season, best on the circuit and 21 more than second-place Craig Raudman.

Eleven different drivers have won the circuit's 12 races this season. Kanke won at the Colorado National Speedway on Aug. 21.

Kurt Busch of Las Vegas is the currents points leader with 17 points. Last year's L.A. Street Race champion, Steve Portenga, will also compete.

AT A GLANCE

Today and Sunday: Practice and qualifying. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. each day and racing is expected to continue until 5 p.m.

Monday: Finals in the Featherlite Southwest Series 125 (1 p.m.) begin after the finals in the Ultra Wheel Spec Truck race and the Downtown L.A. Motors Group PRO Racing Series event.
