To help you avoid this scenario, we gathered some L.A. souvenirs that are cheap ($20 or less), packable and fun. And here's how to find these gifts:

1. Hollywood glitz and glamour: Go to CityWalk at Universal Studios Hollywood. Stroll into the Studio store, a host of other stores or check vendors carts for everything Hollywood. Try All Star Collections for sports memorabilia. (Note: If your kid's a professional football fan, L.A.'s not your town.)

2. Funky and Fun: Hop in your car and head to Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Pier for really offbeat stuff. Tie-dyed L.A. T-shirts, anyone?

3. We Love L.A.: No time to spare? Never fear. Los Angeles International Airport is jammed with souvenir shops. Crews of California stores offer a big selection, and they're located in several terminals.
