L.A. PAYS OUT $344,000 AFTER BOND BALLOT BUNGLE.

A supplemental mailing to Los Angeles' 1.4 million voters detailing how the $744 million public safety bond proposal on today's ballot will be spent cost the city $344,000.

The city was forced to send out the second ballot last week because a series of mistakes in the City Clerk's Office left the itemized list of police and fire projects off of the sample ballot initially mailed out to voters.

City Clerk In the United States, a City Clerk is an elected or appointed official who is responsible as the official keeper of the municipal records. In some places, the Clerk may be known as the "Village Clerk" or "Town Clerk".  Mike Carey assumed responsibility for the problem and quickly mailed out the new ballots, which will be paid for out of the city's reserve fund and included in the overall election costs of about $2 million.

The missing page itemized the work to be covered if the bond issue is approved by two-thirds of the city's voters in today's election.

Adding to the problems in trying to win voter VOTER. The City Council rescinded the fee in the face of residents' protests.

Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002. , who pledged to include an itemized list of projects on the bond ballot measure, said the money is needed to finance part of a 20-year, $2 billion plan to improve the city's infrastructure.

If approved, Proposition 1 funds would replace numerous police and fire buildings that have fallen into various states of disrepair or are more than 50 years old.

It calls for replacing the Parker Center Parker Center is the headquarters for the Los Angeles Police Department, and is located in Downtown LA. It is named for former LAPD chief William H. Parker. Originally with the prosaic name, the Police Administration Building, ground for the center was broken on December 30, 1952  police headquarters with a new 300,000-square foot building on the same site, construction of four replacement police stations, two new police stations - including one in the north San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

 - 17 new fire stations and a new fire air operations facility in Van Nuys.

Of the new fire stations, there would be regional stations built in Arleta, Northridge and Woodland Hills and standard stations would be built in Encino, Studio City and Sun Valley.

If approved, the measure would add $32 to the property tax bill of the average $160,000 home.
