nursery) that are set up, staffed, equipped, and in all respects, ready
for use by patients remaining in the hospital overnight.

(2) Licensed beds: the number of licensed beds (excluding nursery)
stated on the hospital license at the end of the reporting period.

(3) For the 12 months ended Sept. 30.

(4) Doctors are not directly employed by hospitals, but are given staff
priveleges.

(5) Includes Miller Children's Hospital.

(6) Inter-Community Campus and Queen of the Valley Campus.

(7) Centinela Campus.

Note: Bed and financial information was obtained from the Office of
Statewide Health Planning and Development (O.S.H.P.D.) Quarterly
Financial Reports. Other information was provided by the hospitals
themselves. Only general acute care facilities were included. Hospitals
are ranked by the average number of staffed beds for the 12 months
ended Sept. 30, 2005.
