For some reason, the NBA Development League The NBA Development League, or D-League, is the National Basketball Association's officially sponsored and operated developmental basketball organization. Known until summer 2005 as the National Basketball Development League (NBDL  expansion draft today hasn't gotten much attention. OK, it hasn't gotten any attention. That didn't stop us from listening in to the conference call out of the D-League office as the Los Angeles D-Fenders The Los Angeles D-Fenders are a team in the NBA Development League. The team is owned by the Los Angeles Lakers, making them the first NBA team to own a D-League team. Like the parent club, they will play their home games at the Staples Center until the Citizens Business Bank Arena in  were born.

There were two priceless moments during the draft. The first came when the league needed to clarify that a D-Fenders' pick named Kevin Johnson is better known as Butter Johnson. That's the type of thing you'd just love to hear David Stern have to say.

The second came as Colorado tried to draft Kevin Lyde for a second time in the ninth round. The league office noted that Lyde already had been taken: ``Selected by your team, I must add.'' It was clear somebody forgot to do their homework.
