A Los Angeles man shot two people Saturday and barricaded himself in a South Los Angeles South Los Angeles is the official name for a large geographic and cultural area lying to the southwest and southeast of downtown Los Angeles, California. The area was formerly called South Central Los Angeles, and is still sometimes called South Central.  home before killing himself, a police spokeswoman said.

Wilfred Leon Wright Jr., 48, shot and wounded a man and a woman about 1:20 a.m., Los Angeles police spokeswoman Angela Grant said. The victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital in stable condition.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was hospitalized, and 19 inmates were evacuated from the Lennox jail after fumes emanated from a broken vial of what was apparently PCP, authorities said.

Rocket carries five satellites into space

Gas forces clear-out of downtown building

About 30 people were evacuated from a Salvation Army building Saturday after a homeless person An individual who lacks housing, including one whose primary residence during the night is a supervised public or private facility that provides temporary living accommodations; an individual who is a resident in transitional housing; or an individual who has as a primary residence a  living there mixed ammonia with bleach to clean a room, creating a potentially deadly gas, authorities said.

Auto shredder kills scrap-metal worker

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - A worker at a scrap-metal yard was killed after getting caught in a machine that shreds cars into softball-sized chunks.

Martin Palacios-Gamez had climbed inside the automobile shredder Friday at Ferromet Inc. to throw metal pieces to a co-worker when the machine suddenly restarted.

Tujunga man killed in collision with pole

SUN VALLEY - A Tujunga man died Saturday night after his pickup truck hit a power pole in Sun Valley, an officer said.

Kevin Edward Campbell's 1989 Ford F150 was heading eastbound on Sheldon Street at 6:50 p.m. when it rolled off the road and hit a power pole in the 11500 block, said Los Angeles police Officer Dan Henry.
