L.A.'s largest concrete pour in recent memory. (An Advertising Supplement to the Los Angeles Business Journal: Corporate Expansion & Relocation).


A landmark construction effort recently took place in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  county as Klorman Construction completed the largest single concrete pour in recent memory at the Howard Hughes Center. The job involved a fleet of 110 concrete trucks, 225 workers and an 80-ton crane which poured 5,600 cubic yards (or 22.7 million pounds) of concrete in just under 12 hours.

The project is owned by Arden Realty and developed by Lowe Enterprises Commercial Group, both of Los Angeles. Designed by Daniel Mann Johnson Mendenhall (DMJM DMJM Daniel, Mann, Johnson, & Mendenhall (architecture, engineering, and construction services firm) ), Los Angeles, the overall project footprint encompasses nearly 100,000 square feet of land area and is comprised of a 12-story high-rise office building plus a heliport heliport, airport designed exclusively for helicopter traffic.  directly over a 3-story subterranean parking structure and connected to an 8-story parking structure together totaling approximately 3/4 of a million square feet of floor area.

The company that performed the pour was W.M. Klorman Construction Corporation, a Los Angeles-based design/build, general contracting and structural concrete contracting company. Since its founding in 1980, Klorman has developed a reputation for building complex parking structures, multi-level towers and high-end architectural concrete projects. Klorman's construction services include design/build, construction management, structural concrete, consulting value engineering repair and project management.

Klorman's array of residential and commercial projects are both negotiated and competitively bid from mixed-use retail centers, restaurants and hotels to office and medical buildings. The company is responsible for the construction of over 150 existing commercial structures, numerous developments and renovation/repair projects diverse in building types and geographic regions. In addition to its headquarters in Los Angeles, Klorman maintains offices in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  and Beijing, China.

Klorman maintains systematic and uniform standards for their project managers and subcontractors through daily customized scheduling, accounting and project management software. Their latest addition of project websites increases communication and real-time responses to insure each project progresses smoothly and efficiently.

Klorman's concrete division consults with the engineer of record for a project to design the structural portion of the project Because Klorman performs their own concrete work, the company is able to offer many variations to manage the entire scope of work. Up-front conceptual engineering along with cost estimates allow Klorman to perform early evaluations to provide better systems and approaches.

In addition to design/build and general contracting projects, Klorman performs repair & strengthening of existing structures as well as erecting specialty buildings in the medical field, high-tech/telecommunications, infrastructure, water and waste, industrial, commercial, automotive, educational and exclusive custom residential markets.
