L. LINDSEY HALSTEAD, FORMER FORD OF EUROPE CHAIRMAN, ELECTED TO DIEBOLD BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 CANTON, Ohio, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- At a regular meeting held yesterday, the board of directors of Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD) elected L. Lindsey Halstead, former chairman of the board of Ford of Europe, to its board of directors.
 Halstead, 63, served as chairman of the board of Ford of Europe from 1989 to 1993. As chairman, Halstead had operating responsibility for Ford Automotive Operations in Europe, a fully integrated product development, manufacturing and sales company operating in 15 European countries and 21 export markets. He joined Ford in 1952 and had more than 25 years experience in overseas markets, with 18 of those resident in five countries. Halstead also had direct responsibility for negotiating and implementing joint ventures in four countries.
 "Mr. Halstead, with his vast international and joint venture experience, will be able to make key contributions to Diebold, as we continue to pursue our strategies of expanding our business overseas and making acquisitions or forming joint ventures to expand our core self- service, security product and service businesses around the world," said Robert W. Mahoney, Diebold chairman, president and chief executive officer.
 A native of Michigan, Halstead currently is a director of Beech Holdings Corporation and Budget Rent A Car Corporation. He also held board membership in the Automotive Industry Associations in Mexico, Brazil and Europe and was an officer and board member of the American Chamber of Commerce and the American Society in Mexico and Brazil.
