) announced today that its Government Services, Inc. division (L-3 GSI GSI - Gensym Standard Interface ), formerly EER EER - An extended entity-relationship model.  Systems, Inc., is one of four contractors awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ ID/IQ Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity
ID/IQ Indefinite Duration/Indefinite Quantity
) contract worth $498 million to provide Integrated Base Defense Security Systems (IBDSS IBDSS Integrated Base Defense Security System ). This contract satisfies the U.S. Air Force's Force Protection Command and Control Program Office's equipment acquisition requirements for the next five years. The IBDSS program supports quick-reaction temporary and permanent fixed-site deployments, as well as provides for multiple, simultaneous installations throughout the world.

The IBDSS program provides vital security for critical assets - fixed, temporary or mobile - by integrating electronic detection, alarm assessment, access control, communications, command and control, and display capabilities to allow for an effective response. Over the past six years, GSI has delivered more than 400 Tactical Automated Security System kits to the Air Force for deployment worldwide. Each kit contains a broad range of sensors, thermal imagers, intrusion detection devices and communications components, all of which are totally integrated and quickly deployable. The division also provides complete logistics support for security systems installed in more than 180 locations.

"This contract is a significant expansion of the security systems support we have been providing the Air Force for many years, " said Dr. Jai Gupta, L-3 GSI president. "Our selection is a reflection of our past performance and our significant technology capabilities. We are proud of the important role our systems play in the protection of our armed forces, and look forward to continuing this strong relationship in the future."

Dr. Gupta also noted that L-3's security systems under the IBDSS program are applicable to other homeland security uses as well. L-3's interoperable products already serve as backbone systems for port security and can be expanded to airport security, infrastructure protection, chemical and petroleum facility protection and other commercial and industrial infrastructure protection applications.

The recent change of the division name to Government Services, Inc. from EER Systems, Inc. reflects the broad spectrum of capabilities the business unit offers. In addition to security services, GSI has a long legacy of intelligence, information technology, analytical, engineering, scientific, and program support services.
