) Program. The work related to this contract started on December 22, 2005 and is being performed in the L-3 MAS facilities in Mirabel, Quebec (Canada).

"We are delighted to be expanding our long-standing relationship with the DMO through this second contract win, which clearly recognizes the value that L-3 MAS will bring to the project. The CBR prototype is an extension of the structural work being carried out by L-3 MAS for the DMO under the RAAF Hornet Upgrade Phase 3 (HUGPH3) Structural Refurbishment Program," said Sylvain Bedard, president of L-3 MAS. "The CBR is a very important step in the RAAF F/A-18 structural program. The Australian DMO and the RAAF will benefit from our expertise and gain the necessary know-how to be shared with our Australian industry partners within the Hornet Industry Coalition."

The centre barrel is the aircraft's mid-fuselage section that carries the load of the wings. The F/A-18 CBR is a major structural modification, required to extend the service life of the F/A-18 aircraft. Both the Canadian Forces and the RAAF have selected L-3 MAS as the service provider for the development of their F/A-18 aircraft structural life extension solution. The RAAF aircraft is scheduled to arrive at the Mirabel facilities in May, 2006 and the prototype activities are expected to be completed by mid-2007.

L-3 MAS is currently the only commercial enterprise in the world in the F/A-18 CBR production mode. L-3 MAS began working on the Canadian Forces CBR Program in 1998, and is pleased to be able to leverage its Canadian experience with the Australian DMO and to L-3 MAS' Australian industry partners.

L-3 MAS has been under contract with the DMO since 1999, and is a member of the Hornet Industry Coalition (HIC) in support of the DMO and the RAAF for the F/A-18 Hornet Aircraft. "The long term relationship L-3 MAS has within the HIC is built on trust and value created by the individual partners for the RAAF. L-3 MAS is the service provider for the development and non-recurring work," said Paul Mercier, senior director for the program at L-3 MAS.
