L-3 Communications Avionics Systems' GH-3000 ESIS and TACAN Selected by Royal New Zealand Air Force.

FARNBOROUGH, England -- L-3 Communications announced today that its Avionics Systems (L-3 Avionics Systems) subsidiary will supply its GH-3000 Electronic Standby Instrument System (ESIS) and Tactical Airborne Navigation (TACAN An ultrahigh frequency electronic air navigation system, able to provide continuous bearing and slant range to a selected station. The term is derived from tactical air navigation. ) system to the Royal New Zealand Air Force The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) is the air arm of the New Zealand Defence Force. It was formed from New Zealand components of the British Royal Air Force, becoming an independent force in 1923, although many RNZAF aircrew continued to serve in the Royal Air Force  P-3K program. L-3 Avionics Systems is working in tandem with L-3's Integrated Systems subsidiary, which is the prime contractor for the P-3K upgrade.

"With defense ministries and departments around the world increasingly opting to upgrade older platforms, we have seen a surge in the retrofit market for GH and TACAN systems," said Larry Riddle, vice president of business development for L-3 Avionics Systems. "Whether installed for a new program or during refurbishment, the GH-3000 and TACAN systems represent a technological leap for any cockpit configuration."

Designed to replace conventional electro-mechanical standby attitude, airspeed and altitude instruments, the L-3 ESIS is capable of providing all three functions, plus heading, slip/skid, navigation data and vertical speed, in a single 3-inch ATI flat-panel display. Its Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display liquid crystal display (LCD)

The multi-purpose display boasts clear off-axis viewing and anti-aliasing of graphics for crisp readouts at any attitude. It is the only standby system available that can be customized to visually match an aircraft's primary flight display     [  system, providing an additional measure of safety when transitioning from primary to standby instrumentation. The GH-3000 ESIS has the ability to interface with the aircraft's navigation systems and provides a complete package to assist the pilot in getting home safely. Extensive digital interface capabilities include the display of VOR VOR Vestibulo-ocular reflex, see there , ILS ILS

At 6.5 pounds, the L-3 airborne TACAN AN/ARN-154(V) is the world's lightest and smallest TACAN ever produced. It has the capability to track up to four ground stations simultaneously in range and two in bearing. The system is offered in two basic configurations; one with the ability to interface with analog flight instruments, and the second has ARINC ARINC Aeronautical Radio, Inc.
