Kyorin Announce Clinical Trial Result for Mucodyne.

Tokyo, Japan, Nov 21, 2006 - (JCN) - Kyorin Co., Ltd. today announced that Mucodyne, generic name Carbocisteine is effective for preventing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). PEACE Study, Preventive Effect on Acute Exacerbation of COPD, a clinical trial conducted for Japanese and Chinese patients, was held between the April and October from 2005 to 2006. Open study was conducted in Japan and Double Blind Placebo Controlled Study was conducted in China.

In the Open Study, which put 160 cases of COPD patients into Mucodyne administration group and control group, Mucodyne proved effective with drastically reduced occurrence of chronic disease in the Mucodyne administered patients. In the double blind placebo controlled study, 709 cases of COPD patients were divided into Mucodyne administration group and a placebo group observed for a year for research on frequency of chronic disease, QOL, and respiratory functions. Similar results were obtained marking under four points for all four categories: symptoms, effect, action, and over all.

The result is to be presented at the 11th Congress of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR) from November 19-22.
