Kyocera's Passport KPC650 EV-DO PC Card up to 35 Percent Faster in Side-by-Side, Third-Party Testing against Leading Competitors; Independent Test Lab's Data Shows That All EV-DO Cards Are Not Created Equal.

SAN DIEGO -- Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global manufacturer of CDMA wireless phones and devices, today announced that its Kyocera Passport(TM) KPC650, a CDMA2000(R) 1x Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) PC card, was the clear winner in a recent test of commercially available EV-DO cards by Quality Partners(a), an independent third-party testing lab. In a side-by-side test against commercially available EV-DO cards from Sierra Wireless (AirCard 580) and Novatel Wireless (V620), the Passport's throughput/speed was an average of 35 and 30 percent higher, respectively.

Quality Partners' side-by-side testing of the EV-DO cards measured uplink and downlink speeds in both good and poor network coverage conditions. In each test scenario, Kyocera's Passport demonstrated faster average throughput than its competitors.

The superior performance of Kyocera's EV-DO PC card is due to its dual-band receive diversity and a high-performance adjustable antenna plus internal antenna for both 800 MHz cellular and 1900 MHz PCS bands. The result is superior performance even when signal strength is not optimal. Passport also features hybrid-mode support, providing a soft handoff to CDMA2000 1xRTT service when EV-DO broadband service is unavailable. Kyocera's PC card also features the Qualcomm MSM6500 chipset.

The easy-to-use Kyocera Passport 1xEV-DO card can be installed in minutes and gives laptop users high-speed wireless data access of up to 2.4 Mbps(a), which provides business customers with a "wired LAN experience" while they are in the field. This quick and easy access to data increases overall productivity and maintains connections to customers, partners and co-workers. Passport not only provides the convenience of mobility but also offers broadband access to corporate applications, email, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and Internet browser capability.
