, a wholly owned affiliate of Kushner Companies and Westminster Communities, announced that it has closed on the acquisition of a 12.75-acre property in Perth Amboy Perth Amboy (ăm`boi), city (1990 pop. 41,962), Middlesex co., NE N.J., with a harbor on Arthur Kill at the mouth of the Raritan River, which is crossed there to Staten Island, N.Y., by the Outerbridge Crossing (1928); settled 1683, inc. , N.J. The Landings purchased the parcel for approximately $7.6 million from Tri-State Ship Repair and Dry Dock Corporation, advancing the progress of the $600 million waterfront redevelopment. The total project encompasses 2,100 residential units, along with retail development, recreation, parks, a marina and future hotel site to be built on 49 acres in an eight-year phased plan.

The Landings at HarborSide LLC, the designated redeveloper, has now acquired and closed title on seven properties within the redevelopment area. Initial construction activity has included demolition, infrastructure and sewer work and the launching of building construction in October 2003.

The Dry Dock property is located in the center of Phase I, on the waterfront bordered by Commerce Street, Front Street and Washington Avenue Washington Avenue can refer to:

"This purchase continues the accelerated progress of Phase I," said Jeffrey Freireich, vice chairman and managing partner of the Landings at HarborSite. The company recently launched construction of 78 condominiums in Phase I and has sold 76 of them.

"As a result, we are again accelerating the process by moving ahead even more quickly than initially hoped for, with the submission of plans for the second residential building, which will include 86 one- and two-story residences," Freireich noted.

A waterfront park Waterfront Park can refer to any of a number of parks on a river or other body of water, including:
  • Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
  • Louisville Waterfront Park along the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 1999.

In addition to this latest acquisition in Perth Amboy, Kushner Companies recently acquired and closed on Phase I of the residential development in Asbury Park Asbury Park, city (1990 pop. 16,799), Monmouth co., E N.J. The company will begin construction of 146 townhomes and condominiums overlooking Wesley Lake early in the fall.

The firm is also commencing construction of Cranford Crossing in Cranford, N.J., the first redevelopment in the downtown area of Cranford in more than 100 years.
