The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) held its annual scholarship fund raising dinner in support of women journalists on 29 July 2005 at The Grand Regency Hotel The Regency Hotel was a hotel in Denver, Colorado. Other companies who supported this worthy cause included The Standard Group, Safaricom, CIC CIC

In her speech entitled "Take Your Sit", veteran broadcaster Elizabeth Omollo encouraged women journalists to exert themselves, acquire adequate knowledge and training in their field, gain confidence and stick their heads above the waters in all situations, no matter how competitive the field is. She further urged them to believe in themselves and trust that anything a man can do, they can do better.

The Chairperson of AMWIK, Rose Lukalo-Owino, and Programmes Coordinator, Pamela Mburia, thanked the sponsors and guests for their overwhelming support to enable women journalists acquire higher education for a more informed society.
