Krensky Named to Newly Created NIH Post.


STANFORD, Calif. -- Alan Krensky, MD, professor of pediatrics (immunology) at the Stanford University School of Medicine Stanford University School of Medicine is affiliated with Stanford University and is located at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California, adjacent to Palo Alto and Menlo Park.  and chief of immunology and transplantation biology at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) is a hospital located on the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto, California. It is staffed by over 650 physicians and 4,750 staff and volunteers. , has been selected by the National Institutes of Health as the agency's first deputy director for the Office of Portfolio Analysis and Strategic Initiatives.

"I am pleased and honored to join the NIH leadership team at this most important time," said Krensky. "My interdisciplinary experiences at Stanford and Packard Children's will be invaluable as I move into this next phase of my career." Krensky, who is the Shelagh Galligan Professor in the School of Medicine, will assume his new position at the NIH on July 8.

NIH director Elias Zerhouni, MD, said the agency is fortunate to have Krensky come on board. "He will play a key role as OPASI OPASI Office of Portfolio Analysis and Strategic Initiatives (National Institutes of Health; US Department of Health and Human Services)  provides an 'incubator space' to address critical research efforts in cross-cutting areas of NIH priorities,"Zerhouni said.

Since 2000, Krensky has also been executive director of the $500 million Children's Health Children's Health Definition

Children's health encompasses the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of children from infancy through adolescence.

He was instrumental in guiding both key initiatives and important recruitments that have helped transform Stanford pediatrics and the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital."
