Kratchman wins master plan contract.

The announcement was made today by lead architect Steven Kratchman. Terms were not disclosed.

The three main areas of the contract awarded to Kratchman are:

(1) A comprehensive "conditions survey" in which the Kratchman architectural team and mechanical engineers assess the condition of all existing architectural and mechanical components of each room. Specifically, they will evaluate the quality, appearance and appropriateness of previous renovation work, including ceilings, moldings, flooring, wall finishes, furniture and the preservation of other architectural and decorative elements.

(2) A "green review" of all energy usage and expenditures as well as a careful evaluation of energy generation opportunities including solar and co-generation sources.

(3) A systematic evaluation of the illumination illumination, in art
illumination, in art, decoration of manuscripts and books with colored, gilded pictures, often referred to as miniatures (see miniature painting); historiated and decorated initials; and ornamental border designs.

"Well thought out design and engineering changes coupled with the right applications of today's green technology can be used to enhance both appearance and function, making the club more 'enjoyment friendly' and more cost- and energy-efficient to operate," Mr. Kratchman said. The Union Club, located at 101 East 69th Street, was built in 1932 to the designs of architects Delano Delano (dĕl`ənō), city (1990 pop. 22,762), Kern co., S central Calif., in the fertile San Joaquin valley; inc. 1915. The city's economy is based on agriculture (grain and fruit) and related enterprises, especially vineyards and wineries.  & Aldrich.

"While clubs evolve, most are able to accommodate changes largely within their existing framework. It is a credit to the original architects that their designs remain largely intact today," said Mr. Kratchman. "Awareness of collective memory, knowledge of technology and familiarity with demographic trends are vital for developing a master plan for such an historic club," added Kratchman.
