Korea Telecom CORP. Joins the ITXC Network.


PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1999--ITXC(TM) Corp (www.itxc.com), the tier 1 carrier of Internet telephony Another term for IP telephony and VoIP. In the late 1990s, some people made a distinction between Internet Telephony and VoIP: Internet telephony referred to voice over the public Internet, while VoIP referred to voice over private IP networks. , announced today that Korea Telecom KT (formerly, Korea Telecom, Korean: 한국통신, NYSE: KT) is South Korea's top integrated wired/wireless telecommunication service provider. KT has been Korea's leader in the development of the information & communications business for the last 25 years  has chosen to join the ITXC Corp network.

Korea Telecom is currently using ITXC's WWeXchange(SM) Service to route calls around the world and is providing IP termination in Korea to ITXC.

Korea Telecom joins major carriers such as Bell Atlantic and Japan Telecom as well as over 56 service providers in 27 countries who are members of the ITXC global Internet telephony network.

Korea Telecom, which is well known for its cooperation with foreign carriers in technological innovation, is using the ITXC Corp network to complete outbound calls from its Internet Phone (1) See IP phone and softphone.

(2) (Internet Phone) The first VoIP telephone service in the U.S., introduced in early 1995 by VocalTec Communications Ltd., Fort Lee, NJ (www.vocaltec.com). Using a Windows softphone, calls could also be made to a regular phone.
