Korea Info Data Corporation Implements WatchGuard Firebox X Integrated Security Appliances and Firebox SOHO VPN End Points for Enhanced Security, Efficiency.

SEATTLE -- Selects WatchGuard solution for ease of management, capacity and reduced total cost of ownership

WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:WGRD) today announced that Korea Info Data Corporation (KOID), a telephone number directory service spun off from Korea Telecom KT (formerly, Korea Telecom, Korean: 한국통신, NYSE: KT) is South Korea's top integrated wired/wireless telecommunication service provider. KT has been Korea's leader in the development of the information & communications business for the last 25 years , has selected WatchGuard Firebox X integrated security appliances as its network security solution. The company has deployed WatchGuard Firebox X2500 security appliances at each of its two head offices in Pusan and Daejeon, and more than 250 WatchGuard Firebox SOHO Soho (sōhō`, sə–), district of Westminster, London, England, known for its continental restaurants. Once a fashionable quarter, it became popular among writers and artists in the 19th cent.  appliances as VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  end points to secure workers accessing the network from home offices.

WatchGuard Firebox X met KOID's requirements for a network security solution to replace its Remote Access Server (RAS (1) See network access server.

. The company needed to provide its call center staff with the reliability, flexibility and security to operate from home office environments while continuing to provide customers with fast transaction times and immediate data. In addition, it required a solution that was capable of supporting a user base that is expected to grow to almost 5,000 next year -- a third more than just two years ago.

Following a review of three network security vendors, including SecureSoft and Fortinet, KOID chose WatchGuard based on its price/performance, centralized cen·tral·ize

management and capacity features. Additional requirements included ease-of-use and configuration, single sign-on An identification system that lets users log into multiple Web sites on the Internet with one username and password. Single sign-on systems are also used within an enterprise, enabling users to access all authorized resources in the local network using the same username and password. , a secure firewall connection to the Internet, Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections from remote home users, and the capability to monitor traffic patterns in real-time.

As Byung-Ki Kim, department management, KOID, explains: "We required a solution that would maintain a high level of network security on an ADSL See DSL.

network while at the same time enabling staff to access centralized customer databases so that they could continue to provide telephone number directory services. In turn, we wanted to have a secure, easy-to-manage Virtual Private Network (VPN) environment."

A key reason for choosing Firebox X was its ability to establish dynamic VPN paths using WatchGuard's flexible DVCP DVCP Dynamic VPN Configuration Protocol  protocol, as well as the ability to establish VoIP gateways via the VPN. In the past, IT personnel could only remotely support home PCs with a modem connection. If there were issues with the PCs, KOID had to talk the user through the problem or send a technician to the site. By contrast, WatchGuard's VPN capability allows the company to remotely manage all PCs anywhere in Korea.

"We can now provide faster services to customers compared to our previous RAS environment. In addition, by using the Firebox SOHO devices, we can improve operational efficiency and give our users the convenience of remote access without sacrificing security," added Mr. Kim.

"The implementation was fast and furious and took just three months. The Firebox X product provides maximum capacity at a reasonable price, and supports efficient and secure network operations by providing diverse management tools and updated integrated security functions."

"Our leadership in the space and strong, proven technology meant that we could provide a solution which could easily scale to meet KOID's growing requirements as an organization," added Jeff Hurmuses, managing director, Asia Pacific, WatchGuard Technologies.
