) announced on Tuesday the launch of Kofax Desktop, a new, entry-level desktop scanning software.

The company said that the software increases scanning access, efficiency and productivity and extends Kofax's software offerings to personal productivity and collaboration applications.

Kofax Desktop, which can be embedded within Microsoft Office Microsoft's primary desktop applications for Windows and Mac. Depending on the package, it includes some combination of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook along with various Internet and other utilities.  2007 applications, offers easy access to TWAIN-based scanners through a drop-down menu bar. It features right-click scanning from Windows Explorer or the Desktop, enabling users to scan, convert a document into a PDF file format and then save or e-mail the image without having to open multiple applications. Scanned images can also be tabbed within Excel spreadsheets or embedded within Word documents and PowerPoint presentations.

The solution also enables Scan-to-SharePoint capabilities through SharePoint Server 2007, allowing users to scan images directly into an existing document library folder or create new folders easily. In addition, the software provides the ability to add a hyperlink within a Microsoft Outlook 2007 e-mail message to a scanned document.

Kofax Desktop is now available in a free trial version as a download at http://www.kofax.com. The software can subsequently be licensed for USD USD
