Los Angeles-based Knapp Communications Corp., which last month sold Home magazine to Hachette Hachette can refer to: People

 Publications, last week indicated it now plans to buy out publications that compete with its Architectural Digest Architectural Digest is a glossy American monthly magazine. Its principle subject is interior design, not -- as the name of the magazine might suggest -- architecture more generally. The magazine is published by Condé Nast Publications and was founded in 1920 [1].  and Bon Appetit magazines.

Knapp announced two major promotions, apparently designed to facilitate growth. In one case, James Birchfield, vice president of marketing, was elevated to senior vice president of development. Also, Thomas (language) Thomas - A language compatible with the language Dylan(TM). Thomas is NOT Dylan(TM).

The first public release of a translator to Scheme by Matt Birkholz, Jim Miller, and Ron Weiss, written at Digital Equipment Corporation's Cambridge Research Laboratory runs
 Losee Jr., vice president/publisher of Architectural Digest magazine, was promoted to senior vice president/publishing director at Knapp.

The company announced that Birchfield will focus on strategic planning Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people.  and will be responsible for developing and implementing a corporate plan for the future of Architectural Digest and Bon Appetit.

"In addition, he will continue to lead the corporation's assessment of new business ventures," a corporate statement said. "The corporation would strategically expand by acquiring additional titles compatible with Architectural Digest and Bon Appetit in terms of quality and marketing objectives."

Knapp Chief Executive Officer Cleon "Bud" Knapp said Losee will "focus on greater advertising sales leadership matters concerning the corporation as a whole."

"In addition, Mr. Losee will assist in the evaluation of all business projects and/or possible acquisitions in terms of advertising revenue potential," another news release stated.
