KITCHENER -- A network of 28 public Internet access See how to access the Internet. centres in Kitchener-Waterloo, will be hosted by the Social Planning Council of Kitchener-Waterloo. Industry Canada's Community Access Program has contributed $200,975 towards these centres.
The aim of the KW CAP Project is to make certain that everyone, including members of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, can have access to computers and the Internet.
The project is an initiative led by the Social Planning Council of Kitchener-Waterloo, in partnership with approximately 20 other organizations, to create a network of public Internet access sites throughout Kitchener-Waterloo.
The aim of the KW CAP Project is to make certain that everyone, including members of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, can have access to computers and the Internet. This allows them accessing federal, provincial and municipal government information and services; finding community information; seeking career/employment information and job opportunities; research; and learning skills to reap useful in the knowledge-based economy.
The KW CAP Project encompasses 28 sites: 17 are open to the general public and 11 "semi-public" sites that serve clients of particular agencies. Target groups include Aboriginals, youth, seniors, new Canadians, persons with disabilities, the unemployed and the working poor, people with low literacy levels and individuals suffering from serious illnesses.
