Kingsville Competition winners announced. (Items of Interest).


Kamil Musaev, a twenty-two-year-old cellist from Uzbekistan, won first place in the 2002 Kingsville International Young Performers Competitions. Musaev, who studies with Eleanore Schoenfeld at the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission , will receive a total of $6,000 in cash prizes and will perform with the Corpus Christi Corpus Christi, in Christianity
Corpus Christi [Lat.,=body of Christ], feast of the Western Church, observed on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday (or on the following Sunday).

The second-place winner in the final competition was nineteen-year-old pianist Chu-Fang Huang, who will receive $5,000 in total prizes and will perform with the Victoria Symphony The Victoria Symphony is a Canadian orchestra based in Victoria, British Columbia. Formed in the early 1940s, it is considered by some to be Vancouver Island's premiere active performing arts organization.  Orchestra during its 2003-2004 season. She is a student of Claude Frank Claude Frank is a German-born, American Jewish pianist whose career has included appearances with highly reputed orchestras, at major festivals, and in major recital halls around the world.  at the Curtis Institute of Music Curtis Institute of Music, in Philadelphia; coeducational; founded 1924 by Mary Louise Curtis Bok (later married to Efrem Zimbalist) and named for her father, Cyrus Curtis.  in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Third-place winners in the final competition were twenty-two-year-old saxophonist Timothy Dearmin, from McAllen, Texas, and fourteen-year-old violinist Lydia Hong from Northbrook, Illinois. Dearmin, a student of Patrick Meighan, will receive $2,600 in total prizes and will perform with the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony. Hong, a student of Roland and Almita Vamos Roland and Almita Vamos are a husband and wife teaching team who are the leading violin/viola instructors in the United States. Many of their pupils have become laureates of in the most prestigious international competitions. , won $1,100 in total prizes.

The Isabel Scionti Piano Solo Competitions were held simultaneously with the concerto competitions. Winners were Derric Tay, 15, from Copper City, Florida, who won the Precollege Piano Solo First Place award, worth $1,500, and Chu-Fang Huang, who won the College Piano Solo First Place award, worth $1,000.

The twenty-first Kingsville International Competitions awarded more than $24,000 in prizes to young instrumental performers under the age of 26. There were 156 entries in seven different contests, with contestants representing twenty-six states and seventeen foreign countries.
