Kimberly-Clark, Dallas, TX, has made available financial results
for the third quarter of this year. Sales in the quarter increased 6.7%
to $3.3 billion from $3.1 billion in 1998. The third quarter saw a net
income of $478 million--a 46.4% increase from last year's $327
million. Sales for the first three quarters of 1999 totaled $9.6
billion, a 4.3% increase over 1998's $9.2 billion. Year-to-date
earnings experienced a 48.7% increase from $836.4 million in 1998 to
$1.2 billion this year. Third quarter sales in the company's
personal care segment increased 15.5% from $1.14 million in 1998 to
$1.32 billion in 1999. K-C attributes its sales increase to strong sales
gains in its personal care product segments, with particular strength in
disposable baby diapers in Europe and across all brands in North
America. including diapers, adult incontinence products, training pants
and feminine care products.
