Drilling by prior operators at Empire Creek struck 50 feet of 0.42 ounces per ton (oz/t) gold and 5.22 oz/t silver.

The grabens of northeast Washington contain some of the highest-grade, bulk-tonnage gold deposits in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Roughly five million ounces of gold have been produced from the Republic Graben over the last century from sources including the prolific Republic Mine and a series of smaller deposits processed at Kettle River Ket·tle River

A river, about 257 km (160 mi) long, of southern British Columbia, Canada, and northeast Washington flowing generally southward to the Columbia River.

Kinross has announced that its Kettle River area exploration is focused upon Emanuel Creek, "the seventh and highest grade discovery in a long line of exploration successes across the Republic Graben," near its closed K-2 and Kettle mines. Exploration results at Emanuel Creek have been exceptional, revealing bonanza-grade epithermal veins that have returned spectacular gold intercepts of up to 104 feet of 1.27 oz/t and 136 feet of 0.845 oz/t and, more recently at North Emanuel Creek, 198 feet of 0.997 oz/t. The vein system remains open along strike and at depth. Further development is underway and production is possible as early as next year.

Kimberly's Empire Creek Project now covers nearly 700 acres near the western edge of the Republic Graben, just a few miles south of Emanuel Creek. Exploration plans include a ground magnetic survey that will cover the expanded claim group in its entirety and a three-hole, 2100-foot core drill program targeting an intense magnetic anomaly Magnetic Anomaly may refer to:
  • Kursk Magnetic Anomaly
  • Tycho Magnetic Anomaly
roughly 3000 feet long and 1000 feet wide. The size and intensity of the anomaly is similar to one just above the Overlook Deposit (another of the Kettle River mines). Permitting is expected to be completed by the end of November in anticipation of drilling in the first quarter of 2004.

Consulting geologists believe that Empire Creek contains two distinct target-types: bonanza-grade epithermal veins similar to those found at K-2 and Emanuel Creek and high-grade gold skarns similar to those found at the nearby Overlook and Buckhorn buck·horn

deposits. Empire Creek bears many similarities to the 1.6-million ounce Buckhorn Deposit, including graben margin location, alteration-type host rock, laterally-extensive magnetic highs, local high-grade gold and massive magnetite magnetite (măg`nətīt), lustrous black, magnetic mineral, Fe3O4. It occurs in crystals of the cubic system, in masses, and as a loose sand.  content.
