Kids see off Vikings.A GROUP of schoolchildren yesterday relived a 13th century Viking battle - by staging their own opera.More than 70 youngsters from Cumbrae Primary in Millport took part in a new project by Scottish Opera Scottish Opera is a Scottish opera company. The kids acted out the Battle of Largs The Battle of Largs was an engagement fought between the armies of Norway and Scotland near the present-day town of Largs in North Ayrshire on the Firth of Clyde in Scotland on 2 October 1263. It was the most important military engagement of the Scottish-Norwegian war. in 1263 when an invasion bid by Norway's King Haakon was foiled. Other events portrayed in the opera, Millport Song Cycle, included Cumbrae's links with smugglers and its importance as a centre for botanical research. Residents spent two weeks in workshops and rehearsals for the ambitious opera project. |
