Kids mental health centres close.


TORONTO Toronto (tərŏn`tō), city (1998 est pop. 2,400,000), provincial capital, S Ont., Canada, on Lake Ontario. Toronto is the largest city in Canada and since the 1970s has been one of the fastest-changing cities in North America, experiencing  -- Children's Mental Health Centres in Sarnia Sarnia, city (1991 pop. 74,376), S Ont., Canada, on the St. Clair River, at the south end of Lake Huron and opposite Port Huron, Mich. The two cities are connected by a railroad tunnel, and there is a bridge between Port Huron and Point Edward, just N of Sarnia. , Leeds-Grenville, and Kingston have been hit with program cuts, shutdowns and layoffs. Others are expected to follow, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) is a trade union that represents about 115,000 employees in the broader public service of the Province of Ontario, Canada. Its president (as of 2007) is Warren (Smokey) Thomas.  reports.

OPSEU OPSEU Ontario Public Service Employees' Union  claims the cuts will put more pressure on the health care system, the education system, and the justice system, "all of which are more expensive and less appropriate ways of dealing with children in crisis." It will also put pressure on the children's aid system.

 ready to collapse," said Deb Gordon, Chair of OPSEU'S Child Treatment Sector. "The average wait she noted for treatment for children and families in crisis is currently 21.6 weeks."

OPSEU recommends ending competition for funding with other sectors such as Children's Aid, and the development of Social Policy that ensures stable funding for children's mental health centres.

OPSEU'S Child Treatment Sector represents about 2,000 child and youth in 27 child treatment centres.
