Keynote Speakers Set for Sensor Web Symposium.WAYLAND, Mass. -- At the third OGC Emerging Technology Summit (ETS III), to be held April 14-15, 2005 at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC., a distinguished group of speakers will present their views on "Advancing the Sensor Web." This unique event has been organized by the Open Geospatial Consortium The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international voluntary consensus standards organization. In the OGC, more than 330 commercial, governmental, nonprofit and research organizations worldwide collaborate in an open consensus process encouraging development and , Inc. (OGC), the Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA), the International Association of Emergency Managers The International Association of Emergency Managers (abbreviated IAEM) is a non-profit educational organization for emergency management professionals around the world. The organization certifies individuals as Certified Emergency Managers (CEM). (IAEM) and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is a multiprogram science and technology national laboratory managed for the United States Department of Energy by UT-Battelle, LLC. ORNL is located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, near Knoxville. (ORNL) SensorNET Program. ETS III will address "Sensor Webs," network-connected arrays of sensors and imaging devices that are being deployed in a growing number of applications including environmental monitoring, disaster mitigation, energy infrastructure management, security monitoring, transportation, weather forecasting and many other domains. OGC and ORNL's SensorNET Program, in cooperation with other organizations, are developing the open standards framework that enables Sensor Webs to be easily integrated with other internet technologies and applications. Thursday morning's keynote will feature two top-ranking officials who will detail the use of Sensor Webs in public safety: Robert W. Corell CBD - component based development Software Support Activity Lead Architect and Jeffrey K. Harris, Vice President and Managing Director for Horizontal Integration of Situational Awareness Systems, Lockheed Martin Corporation will speak on the role of Sensor Webs in geospatial intelligence and critical infrastructure operations and protection. On Friday, the morning keynote presentation by Mark Weitekamp, Manager Systems Division, Homeland Security Institute will focus on implications of emerging Sensor Web technologies in homeland security and governance. Twenty-six other speakers and panelists will discuss Sensor Web issues in panels.
