Keynote Schedule Set for ComNet '97.


NORWOOD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 1996--ComNet(R) '97, one of the largest networking communication events in the world, today announced its keynote speaker line-up. The conference, which will be held in Washington, D.C., February 3-6, 1997, will bring together the biggest names in the networking and telecommunications industry. The roster includes:

Wednesday, February 5

Dr. David Nagel, President of AT&T Laboratories will discuss "Enterprises Without Walls", businesses can be built with virtually nothing but intellectual capital. This relatively new phenomenon is creating entirely new business opportunities and enabling some companies to achieve significant competitive advantages.

Thursday, February 6

John Chambers, President and CEO of Cisco Systems will discuss key business and technology trends in the networking field in his address, "Networking for Business Scalability." He will focus on the impact networking advances will have on corporations and service providers in the global marketplace, including the use of and difference between the Internet and Intranet.

Closing ComNet '97 will be Timothy Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web and Director of the W3 Consortium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Massachusetts Institute of Technology, at Cambridge; coeducational; chartered 1861, opened 1865 in Boston, moved 1916. It has long been recognized as an outstanding technological institute and its Sloan School of Management has notable programs in business, . Berners-Lee will address "The World Wide Web at the Millennium." He will speak onthe direction and impact of Web technologies into the 21st century, focusing on how the continual need for pure information affects virtually every facet of the enterprise community.

Also featured during ComNet '97 is the Annual Town Meeting and other sessions that offer insights into the FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  implementations of the Telecommunications Act, information infrastructure developments and spectrum auctions, and other topics.

ComNet's IntraNet Village, sponsored by IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. ComNet '97 is expected to attract more than 46,000 professionals from a broad range of disciplines within their organizations, including IS, LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. , WAN, WAN/telecom, network and corporate management, as well as analysts, investors, resellers and consultants.
