CASUALTIES:

_Confirmed U.S. military deaths as of May 1, 2007: 3,351.

_Confirmed U.S. military wounded as of May 1, 2007: 25,090.

_U.S. military deaths for April 2007: 104.

_U.S. military deaths after the Baghdad security crackdown beginning Feb. 14, 2007: at least 211, including at least 91 from incidents in Baghdad and at least 120 from incidents outside the capital.

_Iraqi civilian deaths: Estimated at more than 63,000, with one controversial study in 2004 contending there were as many as 655,000.

_Since the start of the Baghdad security crackdown, there continues to be a drop in the number of victims of sectarian death squads in Baghdad. According to an Associated Press count, there were at least 447 bodies found in Baghdad in April 2007, 564 bodies found in March and 505 bodies found in February _ compared with 954 in January and 1,222 in December.

_Assassinated Iraqi academics: 309.

_Journalists killed on assignment: 100.

COST:

_More than $421 billion. Combined with the conflict in Afghanistan and operations against terrorism elsewhere, the cost has topped at least $500 billion. A January 2007 study by Linda Bilmes of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government put the total projected cost of providing medical care and disability benefits to veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan at $350 billion to $700 billion.

_Prewar: 2.58 million barrels per day.

_April 22, 2007: 2.18 million barrels per day.

ELECTRICITY:

_Prewar nationwide: 3,958 megawatts. Hours per day (estimated): four to eight.

_April 25, 2007, nationwide: 3,800 megawatts. Hours a day: 11.4.

_Prewar Baghdad: 2,500 megawatts. Hours per day (estimated): 16-24.

_April 25, 2007, Baghdad: megawatts not available. Hours a day: 5.1.

TELEPHONE:

_Prewar land lines: 833,000.

_March 13, 2007: 1,111,000.

_Prewar cell phones: 80,000.

_March 13, 2007: 8,720,038.

WATER:

_Prewar: 12.9 million people had potable water.

_April 30, 2007: 15.3 million people have potable water.

SEWERAGE:

_Prewar: 6.2 million people served.

_April 30, 2007: 10.7 million people served.

INTERNAL REFUGEES:

_April 18, 2007: Approximately 1.9 million people. An estimated 750,000 have been internally displaced since the beginning of 2006.

EMIGRANTS:

_Prewar: 500,000 Iraqis lived abroad.

_April 18, 2007: Approximately 2 million live abroad.
