Key Tronic manufactures "expandable" notebook keyboard for IBM.

SPOKANE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 1995--On March 7 IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Corp. announced the much anticipated introduction of the new IBM ThinkPad 701C Notebook computer.

The ThinkPad 701C combines the size and convenience of a notebook's smaller profile with features and ease-of-use normally found in much larger laptop computers. Measuring 7.8" x 9.6" x 1.6" and weighing in at just 4.2 pounds, IBM's ThinkPad 701C opens to reveal the 11.5" TrackWrite keyboard, manufactured by Key Tronic Corp. in its Spokane facility. The TrackWrite keyboard features a full-size QWERTY See QWERTY keyboard.

"Storing an 11.5" keyboard in a 9.6" space was accomplished through unique design and engineering," said Glen Griffin, vice president of sales and marketing for Key Tronic. "The keyboard literally expands out of the enclosure. It's designed in two pieces that shift to fit into the notebook's case when closed. When the ThinkPad 701C opens, each half of the keyboard slides outward and downward into position. Close the display, and the TrackWrite keyboard pivots back into its compact shell."
