The university dedicated the Dane and Mary Louise Miller Life Sciences and Bio-Engineering Laboratories during ceremonies Thursday, Sept. 13. The labs are designed to "better understand the most elegantly engineered structure known - the human body," said Dr. Patrick Atkinson, professor of Mechanical Engineering at Kettering. The Dane and Mary Louise Miller Life Sciences and Bio-Engineering Laboratories are in honor of alumnus ALUMNUS, civil law. A child which one has nursed; a foster child. Construction of the $1.2 million laboratories was made possible by a generous gift from the Millers. The Bio-Engineering labs support new curriculum enabling students to get an engineering degree as preparation for medical school or a career in pharmaceuticals, said Atkinson. "The labs are multi-use spaces that can be used in tandem Adv. 1. in tandem - one behind the other; "ride tandem on a bicycle built for two"; "riding horses down the path in tandem" tandem or separately by converting to surgery simulation suites complete with surgical scrub surgical scrub, n a health care provider's first hand and arm wash of the day prior to entering a sterile surgical field. Both laboratories, comprising approximately 3.400 square feet, can be used for lectures or labs, and both can be converted to surgery simulation suites, Atkinson said. Additional features include a cold room, storage area and a prep room to support laboratory functions. Classes to be taught using the labs include: Anatomy and Physiology physiology (fĭzēŏl`əjē), study of the normal functioning of animals and plants during life and of the activities by which life is maintained and transmitted.
