Kerala Police nabs absconding Suryanelli gangrape convict from Karnataka.
The Kerala Police arrested the only convict in the Suryanelli gangrape case -- Dharmarajan -- from Sagar in Karnataka on Friday.
Dharmarajan had jumped bail and was absconding. Earlier this week he had contradicted Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien , saying that the latter had accompanied him in a car to meet the rape victim in a guesthouse. The veteran Congressman had denied even meeting the victim.
According to sources, after Dharmarajan's TV interview from an undisclosed location, wherein he made revelations against Kurien, the Kerala Police's cyber cell tracked him through his mobile phone.
He was arrested around 12.15 pm. He would now be presented in a special trial court in Kottayam.
There have been repeated petitions demanding removal of Kurien as the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman and action against him in the 17-year-old case. However, the Kerala government has ruled out the possibility of a fresh investigation against him.
In the latest, the All India Democratic Women's Association has filed a plea in the Kerala High Court to reopen probe against Kurien in the case.
