Kenya to be sugar-free for months.


Kenya Kenya (kĕn`yə, kēn`–), officially Republic of Kenya, republic (2005 est. pop. 33,830,000), 224,960 sq mi (582,646 sq km), E Africa.  could be facing severe sugar shortages until the year end after the worst drought drought, abnormally long period of insufficient rainfall. Drought cannot be defined in terms of inches of rainfall or number of days without rain, since it is determined by such variable factors as the distribution in time and area of precipitation during and before  in 40 years laid waste to much of the 'winter' crop. Mumias Sugar is a sugar company in Kenya. It has headquarters in Nairobi and operations in Mumias. Its name is abbreviated to MSC. Mumias is listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange.
 MD, Errol Johnson, says conditions are expected to improve in October and "we should reach full capacity in January, or even over capacity." Mumias produces over half of Kenya's domestic sugar consumption of some 67,5000 tons.
