The dramatic growth has been engineered by two brothers, Wayne Cooper Artis Wayne Cooper (born November 16, 1956 in Milan, Georgia) is a retired American professional basketball player who was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the 2nd round (40th overall) of the 1978 NBA Draft.  (president, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. The Coopers attribute the firm's rapid expansion to aggressive marketing, new product launches, acquisitions, technology and strategic alliances.

One of their most important alliances has been their link with The Wall Street Journ at's Interactive edition. The database information on careers.wsj. com, the newspaper's web site on recruiting in the various industries, is produced by Kennedy.

Kennedy's most important acquisition to date was the purchase of the Chicago-based Remy Publishing in May 1998 (NL/NL 5/29/98), taking over Recruiting Trends, Human Resources The fancy word for "people." Conferences

Last year Kennedy ran its first conference on "mergers and acquisitions and management consulting," which Marshall Cooper says was "very successful." The firm is planning a conference at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas in May that will focus on internet and electronic recruiting and staffing. "Conferences haven't had an impact on our overall business yet," Marshall Cooper says, "but we expect this to be a significant revenue stream in the future."

In the development of new products the firm states they are "medium agnostics." This term, explains Marshall Cooper, means that "within each vertical sector, or niche, new product development is not confined to printed newsletters. We first determine a topic, then ask, 'Is this a report, a newsletter, a conference, etc.?"'

The most successful publication that Kennedy has launched is Global IT Consulting Report, a monthly which provides news and analysis on the global IT consulting marketplace. Global IT Consulting Report, like all Kennedy publications, is offered to subscribers electronically--but only 15 percent take it that way.

A subscription costs $895 and comes with a full money-back guarantee for the 12 months of the subscription. This is the policy on all their publications. "We've only been burned twice by two subscribers who asked for all their money back after receiving the subscription for the full 12 months," Wayne Cooper says.

How recruitment experts recruit

Kennedy recruits talented and highly qualified people and pays top dollar, Marshall Cooper reports. This has resulted in something unusual in the newsletter industry: Several of the top-level staff are actually paid more than the two brothers, he asserts.

A key element in maintaining morale and productive work in the company, Wayne Cooper says, is communicating with the staff. "We have quarterly meetings and talk about our goals and results--we share our success with the staff."

"Kennedy also has a very aggressive stock option plan for its key employees," he says. "They are invited to participate after they have proven themselves."
