Kendall Automotive Group keeps shifting.

Byline: DEVELOPMENT REPORT By Joe Harwood The Register-Guard

CORRECTION (ran 1/13/05): A story on Page C1 of Tuesday's newspaper misspelled the name of Kendall Auto Group President Dave Blewett.

Kendall Automotive Group is continuing its franchise shuffle.

The Eugene-based dealership last month embarked on a full-scale remodel re·mod·el

of its sales and service facility along heavily traveled Coburg Road, the former home of its Honda franchise.

President Dave Blewitt said Kendall plans to gut and then extensively renovate the building in preparation for moving its Subaru dealership to the location before May.

"That building hasn't been remodeled much since it was a Volkswagen dealership in 1965," Blewitt said. "It's long overdue."

Kendall moved its Honda and adjoining Acura dealership to its new 116,740-square-foot auto mall in October.

The auto mall, on 12 acres along Goodpasture Island Road just west of Delta Highway The Delta Highway is a short limited-access freeway in Eugene, Oregon, United States, linking downtown Eugene with the Beltline Highway, northern Eugene and the Riverridge golf course to the north. , also houses the company's Chevrolet dealership.

Blewitt said the Coburg Road remodel should be complete by May 1, but Kendall will move its Subaru dealership there from the corner of Seventh Avenue and Washington Street The following streets in the United States are called Washington Street:
  • Washington Street (Alexandria), in Alexandria, Virginia
  • Washington Street (Baltimore), in Baltimore, Maryland, running near Johns Hopkins Hospital
 before then.

The Subaru dealership will operate out of the former Acura buildings until the renovation work is complete, Blewitt said. "Subaru has outgrown that (Seventh Avenue location) in a bad way and we need the room."

Even then, the Kendall shuffle won't be over.

Once the Subaru franchise relocates to Coburg Road, Kendall will move its Hyundai dealership from Cottage Grove Cottage Grove, village (1990 pop. 22,935), Washington co., SE Minn., near the St. Croix River; inc. 1965. There is farming (cattle, sheep, corn, and soybeans) and manufacturing (chemicals and machinery).  to the Seventh and Washington sales lot in downtown Eugene.

Kendall also is nearing completion of a 12,000-square-foot addition to its Lexus outlet at 344 Goodpasture Island Road.

The extra space - the expansion triples the size of the building - will house a parts and service center as well as enlarge the customer waiting area.

When asked what's next for the expansion-happy auto group once the last project is done in May, Blewitt said, "I'm going to take some time off."
