Kemira Expansion in North America "the foundation for global operations"

On January 31, 2002, Kemira acquired Vinings Industries, became a major presence in North America, and again expanded as a global supplier of pulp and paper chemicals.

"North America is the world's largest paper producer, and about one-third of all the world's pulp and paper products are consumed here. Many people underestimate this enormous market," says Juhani Lindholm, Kemira executive vice president of Pulp and Paper Chemicals. "A strong presence in North America is the foundation for global operations in the industry."

"We were aware of the significant technical benefits of this acquisition, but an important additional benefit was the similarity of our corporate cultures," said Seth Spurlock, former president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "New Technology" Additives Embraced by North American Customers

North American customers have embraced the availability of new technology for alkaline sizing and retention aids--technologies proven superior on many of the world's fastest and most demanding paper machine applications in Europe, Finland, and Eastern Canada. Since the acquisition, Kemira Chemicals has been awarded major single source agreements including Longview Fiber, underscoring the synergies the new company brings to the North American market.

And since the Vinings acquisition, Kemira now provides both process additives (defoamers, deinking agents, biocides, deposit control products, etc.) as well as functional additives such as ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. "Our product offering now spans functional and process chemicals in areas including pulping, bleaching, retention, sizing, deposit control, coating, and water quality management," Lindholm adds.
