Kemira announces acquisitions, divestment.


Kemira Oyj, Helsinki, Finland, has announced numerous business activities. The company has reached an acquisition agreement with IFAC IFAC - International Federation of Automatic Control, involved in informatics related to control systems.  GmbH & Co. KG, which is an R & D company that develops nanotechnology applications With nanotechnology, a large set of materials and improved products rely on a change in the physical properties when the feature sizes are shrunk. With this business move, the Kemira Pigments business unit will strengthen its position as a supplier of specialty Tip[O.sub.2] to the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries.

Additionally, the purchase agreement between Kemira Oyj and Lanxess AG for Lanxess' Paper business unit has reached closing. Kemira took operational control of the business on April 1. The acquisition makes Kemira the leading supplier of chemicals to the pulp and paper industry The global pulp and paper industry is dominated by North American (United States, Canada), northern European (Finland, Sweden) and East Asian countries (such as Japan). Australasia and Latin America also have significant pulp and paper industries.  worldwide.

On the divestment side, Kemira has sold its holding (50%) in Biolchim Spa to a financial investor group lead by San Paolo IMI IMI International Masonry Institute (Washington, DC)

The company has also announced a 100 million, 12-year research and development loan agreement with the European Investment Bank European Investment Bank, nonprofit bank created in 1958 by the six founding countries of the European Economic Community (now part of the European Union [EU]). . Specifically, the agreement covers the expenditures at Kemira's two Corporate Research Centers, which support and supplement the R & D efforts of the company's various business units.
