Kemin Distributes Boats, Nets and Motors to Tsunami-Stricken Villagers in India.


AZHILKKAL, KANYAKUMARI, India -- Kemin Industries has donated fiber catamarans, engines and nets to tsunami victims in Azhilkkal, Kanyakumari District Kanyakumari District (also spelt 'Kanniyakumari' or 'Kanniakumari District) is a district of Tamil Nadu state, India and also the southernmost land area and district of mainland India.

Kanyakumari District is one of the 30 districts of Tamil Nadu state, and also the smallest.
, India. Kemin employees worldwide contributed to this cause in an effort to help villagers return to their livelihood of fishing. Since the tsunami, the main source of work and income for this village, fishing, has been all but nonexistent non·ex·is·tence

Mr. N. Samraj Jeyachandran, Vice President, Kemin AgriFoods India (KAI) in Chennai, Dr. G.S. Ramesh, KAI president, and R. W. and Mary Nelson, founders of Kemin Industries Inc USA, made the presentation of the fishing supplies to approximately 60 affected families.

The Kemin team conducted a survey of stricken areas last May to identify the locality most affected and organize the procurement of boats, nets and the engines based on requirements of the fishermen.

Ms. Nelson said the vision of Kemin is to strive to improve the quality of life by touching half the people of the world everyday with its products and services. Procuring resources to allow victims of the tsunami to return to their vocations parallels that mission.
