Keithley Instruments Wins 1998 Best Product Award.

CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1998--Keithley Instruments' S600 Automatic Parametric Test System has been recognized as one of the 20 best products of 1998 by the editors of Semiconductor International (SI) magazine. Keithley customers nominated the S600 for the Editor's Choice award, leading SI editors to determine that the parametric test system "performed beyond expectations" in semiconductor manufacturing operations Manufacturing operations concern the operation of a facility, as opposed to maintenance, supply and distribution, health, and safety, emergency response, human resources, security, information technology and other infrastructural support organizations. .

Semiconductor International is the industry's leading trade journal, published out of Chicago with circulation worldwide. The award is considered particularly credible throughout the industry due to its format of accepting nominations only from actual customers rather than companies themselves. Keithley had won a previous Editor's Choice award in 1996 for its Wafer Level Reliability product.

The S600 is designed for development and production electrical parametric testing of deep sub-micron CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  processes. It provides the lowest Cost of Ownership (COO) of any parametric tester and helps shorten time to market and increase fab yield. Evaluations by several leading semiconductor companies around the world have demonstrated that it has:

Testing throughput 2X-10X better than other systems

High speed sub-picoamp level current measurement

Highly repeatable sub-picofarad capacitance measurement Capacitance measurement

The measurement of the ratio of the charge induced on a conductor to the change in potential with respect to a neighboring conductor which induces the charge.

capability.

This level of performance is significant to the industry because of the trend towards copper, thinner oxides, and newer high-K dielectrics The term high-k dielectric refers to a material with a high dielectric constant (k) (as compared to silicon dioxide) used in semiconductor manufacturing processes which replaces the silicon dioxide gate dielectric. . It is achieved by a unique system architecture which has active electronics per probe pin. This decreases system settling time The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.

dielectric dielectric (dī'ĭlĕk`trĭk), material that does not conduct electricity readily, i.e., an insulator (see insulation). A good dielectric should also have other properties: It must resist breakdown under high voltages; it should not  absorption effects and permits much lower level currents and voltages to be measured.
