Keeping America's musical future alive. (Dear Reader). In 1989, a significant event took place in the life of MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee) . A "new and improved" MTNA FOUNDATION was chartered. The new MTNA FOUNDATION possesses a broader vision than its predecessor. In fact, since 1989, the process has been underway to "reinvent" the MTNA FOUNDATION. The FOUNDATION leadership has been, and remains today, committed to taking fresh looks at the way the FOUNDATION functions, questioning the status quo [Latin, The existing state of things at any given date.] Status quo ante bellum means the state of things before the war. The status quo to be preserved by a preliminary injunction is the last actual, peaceable, uncontested status which preceded the pending controversy. and seeking creative approaches that will make the FOUNDATION more relevant to our present culture and more responsive to the opportunities around us. The "reinvention" of the MTNA FOUNDATION has produced several significant accomplishments over the past thirteen years. * The Teacher Enrichment Grants Program has distributed more than 100 grants since 1995 totaling $95,000. * The Local Association Grants Program has awarded 165 grants totaling $85,348 since the inception of this program in 1993. * The FOUNDATION provides financial support for the MTNA Competitions winners, for the Studio Teacher Fellowship and for the Group Piano Teaching Seminar. Of course, we will not stop with these accomplishments. We have barely scratched the surface of possibilities. We are expanding our fundraising efforts to include planned giving Planned Giving is an area of fundraising that refers to several specific gift types that can be funded with cash or property. These gift vehicles are based on United States tax law. and charitable gift annuities A Charitable Gift Annuity is a gift vehicle that falls in the category of Planned Giving. It involves a contract between a donor and a charity, whereby the donor transfers cash or property to the charity in exchange for a partial tax deduction and a lifetime stream of annual income . And we will develop new programs to meet the new opportunities of this new age. We are the only foundation in the world devoted to the studio music teacher. And, because of this uniqueness, our focus for giving grants and other financial assistance will remain the independent and collegiate music teachers and their students. All of this, however, comes with a price. None of the things we do, none of the vital assistance we provide, can be done without money. That's why I'm writing this today. The MTNA FOUNDATION needs your support. We need the steady flow of contributions in order to continue the steady flow of grants, awards and program support. The motto of the MTNA FOUNDATION is "keeping America's musical future alive for succeeding generations." By supporting the MTNA FOUNDATION and its unique mission, you will ensure this compelling vision will be achieved. In fact, when one considers the potential of 24,000 music teachers giving to support these exciting programs, we truly have the ability to mold musical futures for generations to come. Before us lies a formidable agenda. But it is one that can be accomplished as we work together, each giving our best for the good of all. Gary L. Ingle in·gle n. 1. An open fire in a fireplace. 2.
